(3) files:

CFBPBK.DAT - The playbook data file.
CFB_READ.ME - This text file.
Any other files have been appended by others subsequent to the
release of this game by the author.
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Cunning Football (CFB) is a dynamic, interactive, menu driven
football game. It tests both skill and strategy, requiring a
user to guide players as well as call plays. This program
requires an IBM compatible computer and although, CFB was
primarily designed for use on systems with EGA graphics adapters,
the program will run correctly with a Hercules, CGA, EGA or VGA
adapter. Cunning Football runs best on systems with 320K or more
available RAM, but it may work with less. CFB allows the user to
select either the keypad, a mouse, or a joystick as the
controlling input device.
CFB simulates a real football game as closely as possible. It
includes interceptions, penalties, and other subtleties found in
football. However, CFB was also designed to be easy to use, so
some realism was sacrificed for the sake of user friendliness.
Although, CFB has undergone several revisions, there is always
room for improvement. So, registered users are encouraged to
send comments and suggestions to make the game even more
entertaining.
After registering your copy of Cunning Football, you will receive
an enhanced version of CFB called All-Pro Cunning Football
(APCFB) which is the TWO PLAYER VERSION. In addition to APCFB,
an EXTENDED USER'S MANUAL, and an EXPANDED PLAYBOOK.
All-Pro Cunning Football allows two people to play against one
another. In APCFB, the two players can "challenge" each other
with both skill and strategy. You'll have much more football fun
than you ever did before!
The EXTENDED MANUAL has detailed diagrams and explanations of all
of the plays. It also has tips on how to execute your plays more
effectively. There is also information on how to start with
sound off, or in various graphics modes, or with the saved game.
And there's much, much, more.
The EXPANDED PLAYBOOK contains many more exciting offensive and
defensive plays to increase your play calling choices. It also
includes fake placekicks, fake punts and onside kicks.
Modifications being considered for future versions:
1. Modem support for remote two player games.
2. Statistics display (based on play, down, and ?).
3. Modifiable team and/or player profiles.
4. User defined plays.
5. Any other suggestions to make the game more enjoyable.
Cunning Football is the best interactive football game available,
including any commercial games. CFB is a fun and exciting game
oriented toward those of us football fans who have a relatively
good understanding of the game of football, and really enjoy it.
The user will be the VISITING team and the program will represent
the HOME team. I hope you enjoy Cunning Football. Good Luck.
REMEMBER : You'll get the TWO PLAYER GAME, the EXPANDED USER'S
GUIDE, and the EXTENDED PLAYBOOK with registration.

directly above and below the currently highlighted menu
choice.

previous menu. You may also exit the current menu by
selecting "Leave ... Menu" from the menu of choices.
With a JOYSTICK:

Calling a play is a simple, menu assisted procedure. First, you
choose a category or "Play Group." Then, select the desired play
from the "Play Menu." You may issue other commands by choosing
"Special Calls." Selecting "Special Calls" will allow you to
call timeouts, save or retrieve games, or issue several other
useful commands.
3.1 Displaying a Play Diagram
After highlighting a play on a menu, you may display a diagram of
the play to give you information about where you should move, who
your available receivers are, when you should pass, and other
important information. To display a diagram you should:
With a MOUSE:
Press the middle button (or left & right buttons together).
With the KEYPAD:
Press the "Ins" key.
With a JOYSTICK:
Press buttons one and two simultaneously.
4.0 Controlling Player Actions
On Offense, you will control the player with the ball. After the
snap, you will control the QB until you pass or handoff the ball.
On Defense, you will control the Middle/Inside Linebacker. This
player will appear larger and brighter than the other defensive
players. You may use the keypad, a mouse, or a joystick to
control your players.
To Move With a MOUSE:
Simply move the mouse to control the movement of your
player. You will continue to move in the same direction
until you move the mouse in another direction. You may also
stop by pressing the Middle Mouse Button (or Left & Right
Buttons together).
On Passing Plays:
To PASS the ball, press the Left Mouse Button,
To Highlight the intended receiver, press the Right
Mouse Button.
On Outside Toss Plays:

To Move With the KEYPAD:
Using the keypad, you will be able to control the movement

General Actions with any Device:
On Inside Running Plays:
To HANDOFF the ball, move the QB to the RB. The RB
will take the ball. Then you control the RB.
On Defense:
To TACKLE the ball carrier, move toward the ball
carrier.
On Placekicks:
To KICK a Field Goal or P.A.T., do NOT move the holder
(QB). The kicker will automatically attempt a
placekick.
On Punts:
To PUNT the ball, press the PASS key. The Punter will
then take several steps and punt the ball.
Once the ball is punted, the defensive players will
automatically attempt to receive the punt. After the
reception, whoever is controlling the defense will be
controlling the punt returner.
NOTE: Punt quickly because the punt needs room to
step up before he kicks.
On Kickoffs:
To KICKOFF the ball, allow the kicker to automatically
kickoff while you play kickoff coverage.
Similar to punt returns, kickoff returners
automatically receive the the kickoffs. After the
kickoff is received, who ever is controlling the kick
